History of the Province

“I ask only one thing of you, to be always renewed in your religious life of consecration to Our Lord Jesus Christ” (Venerable Bp. Stephen Ferrando).

Mary Immaculate Province of Kolkata was canonically erected on 09 December 2002, marking a sacred milestone in its spiritual and missionary journey. Anchored at its headquarters in Ichapur, H.I.T. Road, Howrah, the province stands as a beacon of faith and service. Spanning 21 mission stations across 12 dioceses, and sustained by the dedication of 152 dynamic and committed members, the province thrives under the maternal protection of Mary Immaculate, drawing strength and purpose from God’s divine providence.

Guided by the visionary leadership of Rev. Sr. Sini Mathew, Provincial Superior and her Council members, the province continues to grow in grace and purpose, flourishing in its mission and deepening of its spiritual life. It carries forward the legacy of selfless service, remaining deeply grateful to its former Provincial Superiors namely Sr. Nancy Augustine, Late Mother Elizabeth Packumala, Sr. Molly James and their devoted councillors, whose unwavering commitment and inspired governance laid the firm foundation upon which the province now stands. Their contributions remain etched in the heart of the province’s history, echoing the fidelity and zeal that define its sacred mission.
